Monsters, Music, and Motivational Magic

“A lot of life is dealing with your curse, dealing with the cards you were given that aren’t so nice. Does it make you into a monster, or can you temper it in some way, or accept it and go in some other direction?” - Wes Craven

“Music imprints itself on the brain deeper than any other human experience. Music evokes emotion and emotion can bring with it memory. Music brings back the feeling of life when nothing else can.” - Dr. Oliver Sacks

“Stop acting as if life is a rehearsal. Live this day as if it were your last. The past is over and gone. The future is not guaranteed.” - Wayne Dyer

Three creative, brilliant, and compassionate souls are gone. All different, yet similar in the way they studied life and delved into the human psyche. All accepted their gifts and gave to others. One a writer and director of horror movies, one a neurologist and author, and one a self-help guru and motivational speaker. All led lives of extraordinary light, vision, and truth.

The movie director ushered us inside our dreams, dreams haunted by frightening characters and horrifying scenarios. We learned to accept our dark side through his imagination. We  realized we all have a little Freddy Krueger lurking inside us. What defines us is how we guide that demon.

The neurologist escorted us inside our brains: our mysterious, marvelous, mystical brains. We danced to his words and learned some insight into the music of our souls. We first knew him through Robin Williams’ beautiful performance in Awakenings. We then searched for more about what happens inside our crazy wonderful heads because of him.

The self-help guru and motivational speaker directed us inside our hearts. We discovered through his words to be brave and strong and true to ourselves. We read and heard his honest words and knew we had the strength to love ourselves, even in the darkest of times.

All of us have touched others. We may not have directed movies, written books, or spoken before thousands of people, but what we do and say has a ripple effect. Your presence is a light and a force to be reckoned with, so remember that power as you share it with the world.

Embrace your inner monster, dance to the music in your head, and be the director of your life.

“Horror films don’t create fear. They release it.” -Wes Craven

“It really is a very odd business that all of us, to varying degrees, have music in our heads.”
- Dr. Oliver Sacks

“When the choice is to be right or to be kind, always make the choice that brings peace.”
- Wayne W. Dyer
